I wish I had taken this course before starting a CoP, but regardless it has given me practical steps I can take now to improve the CoP. This should also be taken by any organisational leaders thinking about having CoPs in the organisation, so they better understand what they are for and how they can be successful within an organisation.

Emily does such a good job at explaining what a CoP is, what it isnt, what it should be and where things may be going wrong. A great set of videos which i really enjoyed watching and learning from!

I just started a new role and this role is focused on our internal communities and supporting them. I devoured the course, it was easy to follow, with easy to use templates and ideas. I especially got a lot out of the adhoc discussion feature which ran alongside each course module. I now feel informed and able to support the communities I have been running rather naively with more focused activities and also understand what sort of journeys communities go through . This knowledge has already helped me support CoP organisers and leaders through 1:1 catch ups and making them feel heard and seen and providing templates and actions to help the engage. I am also about to distinguish better between communities of interest and practice now. Thank you I am excited about my role now and feel informed and able to make a difference.

Additional course features such as viewable discussion topics from others completing the course are beneficial and help to build a community in of themselves, and Emily's immediate responses to my own discussion topics provided constant insights which helped me refine my own outputs and thinking. There is no better learning aid, set of tools, or teacher for anyone wanting to build and improve a Community of Practice themselves.

Thanks a lot Emily, the course was a great opportunity to step back and spend some real and valuable learning time on this subject. It's sometimes easy to get stuck in an insular way of thinking about the communities we lead or participate in, I appreciated the chance to reflect on this from a wider perspective using the insights in the course. I especially appreciated the self pace of the course while wowk (and life!) did its own thing! The level of thought and care you've taken in the design, detail, and delivery of the course content and presentation is abundantly clear and I enjoyed going through the additional resources in each of the sections.

If you're new to communities of practice you'll gain foundational tips and techniques on how to frame things for success. Informative course with practical strategies and interesting scientific Information to support you build and develop, or review and regroup a community of practice. Self-paced so can do as much as you want or a module here and there to fit in with your work/life balance.

The course has shown me how to improve the chapter I lead and help it become more impactful. I can do this by focusing on three key areas. First, I need to officially define the chapter’s purpose. The course’s Kickoff Canvas provides a great framework for a workshop with my core members. We can define our purpose, principles, and goals together, which will make everyone feel more invested. Second, I need to diversify our activities. I can go "beyond the meet-up" by introducing a mix of different formats. I can plan sessions for deliberate practice, where members can try out new skills in a safe environment, or hold show and tell sessions where people share a project they’ve been working on. Finally, to make the chapter more sustainable, I need to cultivate new leaders. The course highlights that CoPs rely on shared leadership. I can encourage active members to take on short-term responsibilities, like leading a specific project or organising a meeting. This will help us move toward a self-sustaining model and allow me to gain the organisational support we need to grow our impact.
